Today I came to have a conversation. A conversation that goes deeper into knowing your why. In the know your why conversation, we talked about the importance of knowing your why, how to find your why , and that your why is your purpose in life, which is your unique gift from God. Today we will talk about the importance of using your unique gift.
Embracing Your Unique Gifts in a Comparison-Driven World
We live in such a world where we are always comparing ourselves to the next person. I mean...Everywhere we look whether it’s social media, tv, or even at the gym, we see someone that we feel has it better than us. Living in a world like this can make you feel like there’s nothing special or unique about you. Well, I’m here to tell you that’s not true. God has given all of us unique gifts to use and in turn live a life of abundance. Each and every one of us are born with unique gifts and talents. The problem is that some of us aren’t using the gifts that were designed for us to prosper.
The Importance of Investing Your Gifts: Lessons from the Parable of the Talents
I’m sure some of us have heard the story in the Bible about the “Parable of the Talents”. This story is basically about a master who gave money to three servants to see what they could do with it. Two of the servants put the money to use and made money for the master. The last servant hid the money and returned the money to the master without making any improvements. This master was very angry with the last servant because he didn't make good use of the money. Moral of the story is that if you don’t invest your gifts, you will lose them and opportunities will pass by you. Oftentimes we try to compare ourselves to others and become envious of their success but we shouldn’t be upset at someone making good use of their gifts.
Discovering Your Zone of Genius: Overcoming Procrastination and Embracing Your Gifts
I used to be a person of procrastination and didn't use some of my gifts because I feared failure, judgement, and doing things out of my comfort zone. It wasn’t until I started operating in my zone of genius where my fear began to go away. You may be asking yourself, what is the zone of genius? The zone of genius is the activities that are uniquely suited for you to do. The zone of genius draws upon your natural gifts and strengths and in your zone of genius, you are able to create the most value for yourself and others. When I am in my zone of genius, I am speaking, building relationships, and leading others. These are all gifts that God gave to me and I try to make sure I don’t do too many things that are out of my zone of genius.
